That morning, Lady Pam was upset by an annoying incident. Her snow-white cat, Milky, had knocked her favorite teacup off the table, and it got a chip.
"Oh, well," thought Lady Pam. "You've had your eye on this cup for a while, and now it's yours. You little rascal, Milky."
Lady Pam filled the cup with fresh water, took it out to the garden, and placed it by the sweet peas that had grown lush by the doorstep, so Milky could drink from it during her summer strolls. The day was sunny, and by noon, lazy from the heat and feeling pretty pleased with herself, Milky sauntered over to her trophy for a drink. You can imagine her surprise when she found that a toad had decided to take a bath in her fancy new cup, chilling out and enjoying the cool water mixed with the sweet scent of the peas.
Her stunned confusion was interrupted by a deep croak, like it was annoyed at having its alone time disturbed. Totally thrown, Milky dashed back into the house to drink from her old bowl.
