Grumpel was not a cheerful creature. If the sun shone, he grumbled that everyone would dry out. If it rained, he warned they'd all catch a cold. When he saw a mole's burrow, he muttered about poor construction and a lack of understanding of wall reinforcement.

No one invited Grumpel to feasts. Everyone avoided him.

🪰One morning, he told a fly that only fools drink dew. She said nothing, but later dropped a tiny seed on his mushroom cap. He didn't notice.

A few days later, a sprout appeared on his hat. And suddenly, everyone became unusually kind. When he grumbled, they smiled and patted his back. They invited him to gatherings.

Grumpel was confused. He kept grumbling, but it was getting harder.

One day, he saw his reflection in a puddle and noticed the tiny sprout on his hat. He plucked it off and threw it away.

A dragonfly flew toward him. Grumpel frowned, ready to grumble, but the dragonfly turned away and flew past. No one met his eyes anymore. No one spoke to him.

Grumpel realised how much he missed the warmth. He took a breath, walked up to the mole, complimented his cozy burrow, and wished him a wonderful day. The mole was so shocked he could only stare.

Grumpel kept trying. Awkwardly. Stiffly. But he kept trying.

Soon the garden welcomed him back. Wherever he went, someone would smile and say hello.

Grumpel remained a grumbler at heart, but he learned to offer his advice politely. Others often came to him for help, though they never stopped teasing him gently. And Grumpel secretly didn't mind at all.
